The 6 Days Atlas and Sahara Tour is a perfect way to experience the incredible diversity of Morocco. This combined adventure takes us from the majestic High Atlas Mountains, with their remote Berber villages and beautiful valleys, to the magical Sahara Desert, where you will discover the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes and enjoy an unforgettable camel trekking experience.

This is one of the most popular tours offered by Atlas Trekking Morocco, combining mountain trekking, Berber culture, dramatic landscapes, ancient kasbahs, desert scenery, and authentic local experiences in one unforgettable journey.

The tour begins in Marrakech, where we head into the High Atlas Mountains for a three-day trek through remote valleys and traditional Berber villages. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to meet local Berber people and learn more about their traditional lifestyle, culture, and hospitality.

After the Atlas Mountains trek, the journey continues southeast toward the Sahara Desert. Along the way, we visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore Ouarzazate, known as the "Hollywood of Morocco" because of its long history of film production.

The journey then continues through the spectacular Dades Valley, the Todgha Gorges, and the beautiful Valley of the Roses, before reaching Merzouga and the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi.

One of the highlights of the tour is a camel ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes, followed by an overnight stay at a traditional desert camp. Here, you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Sahara, watch the sunset over the dunes, admire the star-filled night sky, gather around the campfire, enjoy traditional Moroccan food, and experience local music and entertainment.

Day 1 : Marrakech - Imlil(1750m) - Tamatert pass (2279m) - Tinghrin (1600m)

Begin our journey with a trek through the picturesque Atlas Mountains, passing scenic valleys and quaint Berber villages.

Day 2 : Tinghrin (1600m) - Aguersiwal pass (2010m) - Ouddid pass (2200m) - Tizi Oussem

Experience breathtaking mountain landscapes and the warmth of the local Berber people.

Day 3 : Tizi Oussem (1900m) - Mzikk pass (2400m) - Imlil (1750m)

Conclude our trekking adventure in the Atlas Mountains, soaking in stunning views of the valleys.

Day 4 : Imlil (1750m) - Tizi n Tichka (2260m) - Dades Valley

Drive through the scenic Tizi n'Tichka Pass, visiting the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah and exploring the lush Dades Valley.

Day 5 : Dades Valley - Todgha Gorges - Merzouga

Journey to the dramatic Todgha Gorges and head toward the Sahara for a magical camel trek in the Erg Chebbi dunes. Overnight in a nomadic camp under a blanket of stars.

Day 6 : Merzouga - Tazzarine - Draa Valley - Marrakech

Return to Marrakech via the stunning Draa Valley.

If you prefer to break up the long journey on the final day, we recommend adding an overnight stay at Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. In this case, you can choose our 7 days Atlas Valleys and Sahara Tour, which provides a more relaxed itinerary and allows additional time to explore Ait Ben Haddou and the surrounding area.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 : Marrakech - Imlil(1750m) - Tamatert pass (2279m) - Tinghrin (1600m)

After a transfer from Marrakech to the village of Imlil, we will meet with our local team then start our trek walking from Imlil towards Tinghrin village in the Imnan valley, passing through Tamatert Berber village. We will have lunch on the high mountain pass of Tizi 'n Tamatert (2279m). After lunch continue to Ouanesekra-Tamguist. Later we arrive at Tinghrin (1600m) where we will spend the night in a local gite.

Day 2 : Tinghrin (1600m) - Aguersiwal pass (2010m) - Ouddid pass (2200m) - Tizi Oussem (1900m)

Today we start our walk through the Imnan valley exploring Berber villages and terraced fields of corn and barley before we cross the Aguersiwal pass (2010m) discovering the local lifestyle of the Berbers. After lunch we will cross our second pass of Tizi Ouddid (2200m) to reach our local guesthouse in the village of Tizi Oussem (1900m) located in the Azzaden valley.

Day 3 : Tizi Oussem (1900m) - Mzikk pass (2470m) - Imlil (1750m)

Today we start our walk via the terraced fields of Tizi Oussem village (1900m) then up through a juniper forest toward the Mzikk pass at over 2470 m high which will be our highest point on this trip, offering spectacular views for the high Atlas Mountains and Imlil valley. Descent to Imlil.

Day 4 : Imlil (1750m) - Tizi n Tichka (2260m) - Dades Valley

Pick up from your accommodation, and head out over the Atlas Mountains to cross the stunning Tizi n Tichka pass (2260m) through lots of Berber villages. Visit Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, also an optional visit to Atlas Film studios of Cinema in Ouarzazate. Then drive to reach our hotel in the Dades Gorges via the Skoura Oasis Palm grove, the beautiful Rose Valley and the spectacular Dades Valley.

Driving time: Approx. 6 hours
Trekking time: Approx. 1 hour UNESCO Kasbah
2 Meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Accommodation: Local Kasbah Hotel

Day 5 : Dades Valley - Todgha Gorges - Merzouga

Breakfast at the hotel, then transfer to the town of Tinghir where we will have the chance to explore the Todgha Oasis and the famous Todgha Gorges - a massive fault dividing the High Atlas Mountains, rising up 300 meters in a narrow canyon valley with palm grove and Berber villages. Here, we can have an optional hike to discover the local palmeries, a green Oasis full of large date palms. Then we continue driving through many Berber villages and towns, Erfoud (a famous area for fossils, optional visit to have the chance to observe the process of cleaning and polishing the fossils and be able to see the finished products). Later on we arrive at our Auberge in Merzouga then a camels ride through the dunes of Erg Chebbi to reach our camp (Berber nomad tents) with drum music in the middle of the Sahara and traditional Moroccan dinner.

Day 6 : Merzouga - Tazzarine - Draa Valley - Marrakech

Early weak up, just prior to sunrise, then camel trek back to the Auberge in Merzouga, exploring the spectacular sunrise over the Dunes. After breakfast and the opportunity to shower we drive back to Marrakech through the stony desert and Acacia plateaus, then through the Draa valley and the Atlas Mountains.

NB: If you prefer to break the distance of the last day then we suggest spending the night in the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou so take a 7 days Combined Tour.
